I'm between semesters at school, so I seem to have some time on my hands.

We got a new dog... we've had a bad couple of years, so we're now down to two dogs and two cats. We got Hubble because Ziggy desperately needed someone to play with. Well, Hubble wears him out! According tot he animal shelter, he's about 6 years old, but he acts like a puppy. He does everything with gusto - especially playing with his toys. He's gotten a little better, but for a while, every time I went into the living room, I found shreds of stuffing, mangled toy carcasses, and dead squeakers. He was listed as a bichon/poodle; he has a face like a bichon, but a docked tail and tiny feet of a poodle.

My favorite color, purple!

This is one of my favorite projects of all that I've done. The basic design was from Beadwork magazine, Aug/Sep 2006, page 52, called Banded Tapestry Cuff. I was determined to do the project just with items i had on hand, so mine doesn't look much like the picture in the magazine. I didn't have any bicones, so I used some Swarovski cubes, and I ran out of cubes short of what I needed, so there's a couple of oddball beads at the end.

This is from Bead & Button, Aug. 2006, page 79, "Explore Color Variations in Ladder Stitch." It worked up very quickly, and I like the result.

I finished two projects today! The first was from Beadstyle magazine (April/May 2006), called Monet's garden. The instructions didn't give specific colors, and I probably should have spent more time picking out the colors. I really don't have too many seed beads (other than Delicas), so I had to go by the colors on my computer monitor. But it turned out OK, and I have plenty of leftover beads to try again.

The second project was Amethyst Fringe, a pattern from Glenda Payseno and a kit from Ready To Bead. This is my first netted necklace, and it was easier than I thought it would be - it only took about 7 hours work to finish. I'm very happy with this!

It's not my usual colors - I'm trying to get a little away from my favorite blues and purples. This kit also used fireline (or something similar). I think I prefer Nymo over fireline. I couldn't get it to cut cleanly, even though I tried several different scissors. It also has a different closure - it's like a little ball that snaps into the ring - I'm not sure what it's called, but I can open and close it by myself, even with fingernails.

Polymer Clay retreat

Last week I had a wonderful time at a clay workshop, Florida in February. We were in beautiful Lake Yale. We had three full-day workshops from Leslie Blackford, Donna Kato, and Judy Belcher. The Orlando guild did a terrific job hosting the event and making everything run smoothly. Although I have been doing more beading than polymer clay lately, I figured I couldn't go wrong with those three teachers!

My classroom had Leslie first. I think this class really brought out the creativity in everyone. We covered glass votives with clay to use them as night-lights. Here are my two:

Next we learned from Donna Kato. We really worked hard - Donna had so much to tell us and we all rushed to experiment with the new techniques:

Finally, we enjoyed Judy Belcher. Judy walked us through making a kaleidoscope cane, as well as jewelry finishing techniques. Again, we learned so much and tried to use the new techniques. Here are my kaleidoscope canes:
